All About Superficial and Chemical Peels

With summer winding down and fall right around the corner, now is a great time to start thinking about a peel to help refresh and revive your complexion. If you’ve never had a peel before, don’t let the name scare you!

A peel can help address skin issues like sun spots, clogged pores and dehydrated skin that the hot and sunny summer weather may have intensified. Our selection of powerful yet gentle superficial peels are a great place to start. The pumpkin and cherry peels help remove dead skin cells, revealing a smoother, clearer complexion in minutes, with no downtime.

Superficial Chemical Peels are the mildest form of chemical peels and can be used at home. They are safe for all skin types, and usually employ glycolic, lactic, or salicylic acid to improve rough, dry skin or uneven pigmentation. These light chemical peels can also aid in the improvement of mild acne and sun damaged skin, resulting in minimal to no peeling.

Multi-Enzyme Pumpkin Peel

Our Multi-Enzyme Pumpkin Peel (5%) is formulated from pumpkin, papaya and pineapple enzymes along with glycolic acid. This deeply nourishing, deliciously scented, exfoliating peel treatment dramatically improves the skin’s clarity and texture. Pumpkin is rich in vitamins A and C, which soften and repair skin, while natural enzymes help to dissolve dry skin cells, leaving the skin looking renewed and radiant. This at-home treatment is good for all skin types, except ultra-sensitive skin.

Cherry Glycolic Peel

This 100% natural Cherry Glycolic Peel is a 15% blend of glycolic and lactic acids that help to exfoliate dead skin cells, while smoothing and brightening the skin. Cherry fruit pulp contains high amounts of vitamins A and C, which help protect the skin against signs of aging, while lightening and clearing dark spots. Cherries also help moisturize and soothe damaged skin from acne and acne scarring. This at-home treatment is good for all skin types, except ultra-sensitive skin.

PROFESSIONAL PEELS:

If you’re looking for faster, more dramatic results, undergoing a professional chemical peel from a licensed esthetician or medical professional can truly transform your skin, and put you on the path toward a flawless face. Professional chemical peels such as a CoolPeel treatment can reduce the appearance of hyperpigmentation, fine lines and wrinkles, melasma and acne, leaving you with smoother, clearer, more youthful skin. To moisturize your skin after, you can look into combining it with facials such as facials in Dedham, MA.

Professional grade chemical peels are offered in varying strengths, depending on your skin care concerns and goals, but they all offer impressive results. At my studio, I offer two types of professional chemical peels:

Medium Chemical Peels are ideal for patients who have fine lines and wrinkles or uneven pigmentation. This type of chemical peel uses trichloroacetic (TCA) acid and can be used on nearly any part of the body. After this treatment, the skin will begin peeling on the second day, and continue for three to five days until a fresher, more radiant complexion is revealed.

Acne Chemical Peels can help smooth scars caused by severe acne. The peel used is a Jessner’s peel or Modified Jessner’s peel which uses a 14% blend of lactic and salicylic acid, with hydroquione and/or rescorcinol (a peeling agent and infection fighter). The acid blend used in this type of chemical peel is customized for each client to ensure their desired results. Acne chemical peels may also improve wrinkles and skin pigmentation. Peeling occurs starting on the second day and lasts for three to five days.
